The fire alarm system at the Old Mauch Chunk Train Station will soon be replaced thanks in part to state gaming money. State Sen. John Yudichak joined the Carbon County commissioners and the executive director of the Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corporation on Thursday in promoting a $50,000 Local Share Account grant for electrical renovations at the historic building. "Tourism is the number one job creator here, and this iconic building is a central piece of tourism in the Carbon County and the Lehigh Valley," Yudichak said. "The county commissioners have made a great investment in this area and we're happy to partner with them in securing funding for this project. This is a job-creating, community building project. This is an investment in our community." The money for the electrical project comes from gaming funds collected at Mount Airy Casino Resort in Monroe County. The county had applied for just under $100,000 in LSA money. Commissioners' Chairman Wayne Nothstein said the county in recent years has poured well over $500,000 into the train station and Josiah White Park.
