Which businesses earned Easton Chamber of Commerce kudos? EASTON – VF Majestic, whose 600 employees make the uniforms worn by Major League Baseball players and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, received the Outstanding Large Business Award on Thursday during the Easton Area Chamber of Commerce's Annual Dinner & Awards Ceremony. Majestic, formerly known as Majestic Athletic, began in the 1970s in the Slate Belt before moving several years ago to a modern factory at 2320 Newlins Mill Road in Palmer Township. In 2007, publicly held VF Corp. of Greensboro, N.C., a Fortune 500 company, acquired Majestic, whose workers also make other sports apparel. About 500 workers belong to the Pennsylvania Joint Board Workers United, and they ratified a new three-year labor contract last week by a 221-32 vote, union spokesman David Melman said. During the event, which was held at Lafayette College, the Chamber handed out the following other accolades: •Two Rivers Brewing Co., Entrepreneurial Spirit Award •Klein Farms Dairy & Creamery, Pride of Forks Award •Green Harvest Food Emporium, Outstanding Small Business •Debbie Ashton-Chase of Ashton Funeral Home, Community Commitment •Third Street Alliance for Women & Children, Nonprofit Excellence All award winners are in Easton, except Klein Farms, which is in Forks Township. About 200 people attended the event, said Alison Pickel, executive vice president of Easton and Phillipsburg initiatives for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, of which the Easton Chamber is a part.
