The LGBT Business Council of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a Roaring '20s Gala at Silver Creek Country Club in Hellertown. More than 150 people attended, raising $5,000 for Valley Youth House. The Gala was sponsored by NovusACS; Capital BlueCross; Morgan Stanley; AmericaVen; Bennett Automotive Group; The Morning Call; King, Spry, Herman, Freund & Faul LLC; Dr. Binae Karpo Optometrist; Air Products; PPL; Fuse; Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center; Bear Creek Mountain Resort; Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem; Matthew-Kramer Art & Design; Gross McGinley; ASR Media Productions; John DelGrosso Photography; and PostNet. Valley Youth House began in 1973 as a single shelter in the Lehigh Valley for vulnerable, abused and homeless youth. It now has more than 100 residential sites throughout Pennsylvania. Though its reach and programming has vastly expanded, its mission remains the same. It educates, empowers and strengthens the lives of children, youth and families, and builds skills that foster growth and independence. Started in 2009, Valley Youth House's Pride program provides housing and supportive services for homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and allied youth. Youth are provided a safe place to be themselves and gain support to make the typical transitions that occur during late adolescence and early adulthood. Read the original article here.
