Bethlehem is beginning to look a lot more like its nick-namesake, the Christmas City. The Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce in Bethlehem sponsored its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Friday night. “It’s not just a holiday,” said Lynn Collins Cunningham of the Chamber. “It’s part of our heritage.” Christmas Eve will mark the 275th anniversary of when the Northampton County officially became a city. Cunningham said she and others with the Citizens Christmas City Council have been working since the summer for Friday night. Bands, singers and a choir performed in the program leading up to the lighting ceremony. The Christmas tree, located between City Hall and the library, was from the Bethlehem area. WFMZ's Chief Meteorologist Ed Hanna was tapped to lead the crowd in a live countdown where students from nearby elementary schools were asked to help Mayor Robert Donchez flip the switch to turn on the Christmas tree lights.
