STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) - A struggling Chamber of Commerce has announced a big decision. After financial problems and declining membership, the Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce has entered into a new partnership. The Chamber has a new partnership, and a new temporary location. A sign on the Chamber's front door on Main Street in Stroudsburg directs visitors to a location less than a mile away. Valerie Case is Vice President of Operations for the Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce. She says the Chamber has signed a two-year partnership agreement with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. "It is the sixth largest chamber in the nation, it's the largest in the state of Pennsylvania," says Valerie Case, VP of Operations, Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce. The Greater Pocono Chamber currently has about 500 members. At one point, the total membership was triple that. "Naturally when you see a decline in membership, you see a decline in revenue," Case explains. Case says Lehigh Valley's staff will help re-build membership and sponsorship in the Poconos. Plus, current members have extended networking opportunities. "What they'll notice is their ability to attend events in the Lehigh Valley as well. So any mixers, seminars," Case explains. A few years ago, Carbon County had a similar problem and entered into a similar partnership with Lehigh Valley. Since then, Case says Carbon County has acquired more members and revenue. "So this agreement was actually modeled after that," she adds. The Greater Pocono's location on Main Street is about to undergo renovations. In the meantime, members can visit the Chamber's temporary office within the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau building. There's no word when the Chamber will move back into its original location. Board members are now starting to accept bids for renovations. Board members stress, the Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce will keep its autonomy. They encourage you to contact them with any questions or concerns. Copyright 2018 Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc. All rights reserved.
