Carla Hickey has made a 20-year career working in nonprofit organizations, a field that in her experience pays less than many others and is dominated by women. When she chose to work for the Red Cross and now the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, it wasn't to pad her bank account. The work made her feel as though she was making a difference, and there was flexibility to handle family stuff.
