As Bethlehem prepares to wield one of the state's most powerful financial tools to spark redevelopment, Mayor Robert Donchez promised Wednesday he would not forget about the businesses already up and running and unveiled several initiatives to beef up basic city services. He announced neighborhood walks where officials would look for code violations, a task force to scrutinize city finances and an overhaul of the city's website. Meanwhile, police officers will return to walking the beat in the city's downtowns, providing a visible deterrent to criminals and the perception of safety for shoppers and restaurant-goers.
