Phillipsburg business leaders hope to tap into some outside expertise to revitalize the downtown. The Phillipsburg Area Chamber of Commerce applied in February for downtown Phillipsburg to be an associate of New Jersey’s Main Street program. They expect to find out later this month whether the town has been selected, said Meg Dowd, director of Easton and Phillipsburg Initiatives for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. “We have the historical aspect, we have the people who are willing to make the changes, we have tons of support of the town and we really have a lot of momentum going forward,” Dowd said Monday. “Phillipsburg is a prime candidate for it.” The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs program runs a workshop four times a year in which experts offer insight on economic, physical and social enhancements of downtowns, said Jef Buehler, state coordinator for Main Street New Jersey & Improvement District Programs.
