Allentown is receiving high marks for its policies related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people who live and work in the city. The Human Rights Campaign released the 2014 Municipality Equality Index (MEI). Allentown scores 85 out of 100. "It looks at how inclusive those cities are in terms of their laws and policies for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender," said Cathryn Oakley, the author of the MEI. "The ranking for Allentown was fantastic," Jonathan Huerta told 69 News. He is an attorney who is a board member with the LGBT Business Council of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. "At the end of the day LGBT inclusive cities, research shows that they are known to have better life satisfaction as well as just a deeper involvement in the community."
