The Lehigh Valley's Joel Spira, the man whose company invented the first rotary dimmer lighting switch – marking the birth of the lighting-control industry – died today at 88. He was founder, director of research and chairman of the board at Lutron Electronics Corp. of Coopersburg. “Joel was certainly ahead of his time,” Frank Facchiano, chief operating officer of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, said this afternoon. “He leaves behind a major employer for the Lehigh Valley and the world, money-saving products that help everyone and a company that is involved in and supports the community.” The company has been a member of the Lehigh Valley chamber since 1973, Facchiano said. “Everyone has Lutron products in their house,” Facchiano said. “If you have lights, you have Lutron.” Click here to read the article.
